Forum and workshop on airline fuel management and fuel cost optimization

From 1st ' 2nd December 2009, Lufthansa Consulting will host its third specialist conference for the aviation industry in Berlin. After the two successful events for Central/Eastern European airports in 2007 and for Russian/CIS airports in 2008 the focus this time is on airlines and their fuel performance efficiency. About twenty selected executive representatives from international airline companies and regional carriers will debate and rethink fuel matters to create a sounding board of ideas in this field.

The initiative to create a Fuel Think Tank forum has emerged from an Operational Fuel Performance study which Lufthansa Consulting conducted in cooperation with the flight performance software provider PACE earlier this year. The study benchmarks the fuel reduction activities of different carriers and takes a detailed look at cost index operations for regional aircraft. The survey has shown that more and more attention is being paid to fuel conservation efforts. 50% of the participating airlines have established a fuel manager position. The regional airlines which in many cases operate for parent or partner airlines are highly dependent on these companies and their fuel policies and procedures.

Exclusively, at the Fuel Think Tank event airline operations experts from Lufthansa Consulting and PACE will discuss the study results in detail with the participants. In addition, the consultants will present further issues to the forum and encourage the discussion of new ideas and solutions. Guest speakers from Lufthansa and Lufthansa CityLine will round off the program with presentations on their specific views of fuel market development and future fuel savings strategies. Furthermore, interactive workshop sessions will allow participants to benefit greatly from the innovative results and practical recommendations developed in the Think Tank forum, adding value to their fuel management.

Lufthansa Consulting's vision is to establish a community in an atmosphere which will enable an open exchange to boost ideas and creativity by thinking outside the box. Different airlines and experts from the industry are creating challenging assumptions, bringing together alternative perspectives − imagine what's possible. Mobilizing their minds in this way enables the Think Tank members to define and review today's and tomorrow's ingredients for successful fuel management. More Fuel Think Tank events are already being planned for spring 2010. The dates will be announced, well in advance, on the website www.lhconsulting.com.
