Passenger activity at Port Columbus International Airport increased in May while cargo activity was down slightly at Rickenbacker International Airport.

Statistics released at today's meeting of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority Board of Directors show that in May Port Columbus had a 2.3 percent increase in passengers compared to the previous year. A total of 536,757 passengers traveled through Port Columbus in May compared to 524,712 in May 2009. Year-to-date 2,494,090 passengers have used Port Columbus, up 2.1 percent from 2009.

'The May increase in activity demonstrates the continued stabilization of Port Columbus passenger traffic,' said David Whitaker, Vice President of Business Development & Communications. 'This stabilization of passenger traffic is reassuring after the national economy and aviation industry suffered financial setbacks in 2008 and 2009.'

At Rickenbacker International Airport over 13 million pounds of cargo moved through the airport in May for a 3.7 percent decrease compared to May 2009. Year-to-date cargo numbers reflect the movement of over 62 million pounds, which is down six percent from the previous year.
