Northport awarded BrandLaureate Award

Northport (Malaysia) Bhd, Malaysia’s largest multipurpose port operator has been nominated for The BrandLaureate – SMEs Chapter Awards 2008, “The Top Ten Most Preferred Brand.”

Organized by the Asia Pacific Brand Foundation (AFBF), The BrandLaureate - SMEs Chapter Awards take cognizance of the important role that SMEs contribute to the development of the nation and that of brand building.

In recognizing the contribution of these organizations to the development of the SMEs industry, AFBF initiated an online poll to determine the most preferred brand of the SMEs in various categories. The online poll was done via email to 50,000 members of the Malaysian SME, a newspaper catering to the needs of the SMEs and through the website of The BrandLaureate.

Northport was voted The Most Preferred Brand in the Logistics-Ports category through this online poll. The honor is achieved through Northport’s conscious effort to be a key player in the port industry. Northport is the pivotal point of trading for more than 65% of the SMEs in Malaysia.

Northport MD/CEO, Dato’ Basheer Abdul Kader said the award is a reflection of efficient, reliable and proven deliverance of the port. Northport is the cargo convergence point, which facilitates 60% of Malaysia’s import and export.

“We at Northport have gone that extra mile in developing our brand extensively. In line with the government’s objectives to make Malaysia more competitive in the global market, we strive to enhance the port industry by nurturing and facilitating the growth of the industry. This award not only boosts and enhances the Northport brand but also adds greater value to Port Klang, which is the 16th biggest port in the world,” he said.

Mohd Haris bin Ab. Aziz, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Northport (Malaysia) Bhd received the Award at The BrandLaureate – SMES Chapter Awards 2008 Gala Dinner, held on January 8, 2009 at the Shangri La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. Second Finance Minister of Malaysia, YB Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop, graced the event and presented the awards for the night.
