Ryder System Inc. last night named Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. its LTL National Carrier of the Year for the second year in a row. The honor was presented to Old Dominion as part of the 2010 Ryder Carrier Quality Award recognition event, held in Novi, Michigan.

Given annually, the awards recognize Ryder's partners who have shown excellence in transporting the company's freight. Carriers' performance is measured using a variety of metrics, including on-time performance, claims handling, customer service, technology applications, economic value and innovation.

'We are honored to receive this prestigious award, as it represents our company's dedication to providing superior service to our customers and partners,' said Chip Overbey, senior vice president of marketing, pricing and strategic development for Old Dominion. 'This achievement is a result of the hard work from the entire Old Dominion family. Our commitment to customer service is the reason why we can boast a 98.8 on-time delivery rate and one of the lowest claims ratios in the industry.'

This is the 14th year that Ryder has presented the awards, which are given to carriers in 14 different transportation categories.

'We are proud to recognize this year's outstanding carriers by honoring them with Ryder's 2010 Carrier Quality Award,' said Tim Podvin, general manager, global procurement for Ryder Transportation Management. 'We congratulate Old Dominion and our other top carriers who were able to perform above expectations and deliver outstanding customer service in spite of the inherent transportation challenges in 2010.'
