Greg Plemmons, Vice President of OD Global Operations at Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc., announced Old Dominion will offer International Transportation Services between China and the US The offering will be a seamless integrated service with the North Carolina based carrier’s US system including LTL, TL services; Container Drayage and Expedited services.

Commenting on Old Dominion’s introduction of International service between the US and China, Plemmons said: ‘This is an exciting event for us. We are eager to show customers how to enhance their supply chain by using Old Dominion. In many cases, customers with international business moving between China and the US will be able to by-pass the destination warehouse and expedite sold goods to their customer and to point of sale locations. Our plan is to role the service out across our network beginning in May of this year, starting with selective markets on the West Coast and working East.’

‘The offering is supported by our China partner, Cargo Services Far East Ltd, based in Hong Kong. Cargo Services Far East is the largest privately owned integrated logistics provider in all of China. They currently operate 28 offices in China and have a planned expansion of 13 additional offices in 2007. All of our China facilities are equipped with cameras and security systems.’

‘Our China service will provide door-to-door capability with scheduled sailings from all major ports in China to all major ports in the US We will provide customer service support via our OD’Global Command Center which is a 24 by 5 operation. We will also provide end-to-end visibility by utilizing the OD pro number. An OD pro will be placed on the shipment in China and can be tracked from the port in China, on the water, once it hits the US port and finally through delivery in the US.’
