Expansion necessitated by significant increase in shipments over seven-year period PORTLAND, Ore. - Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. recently opened its newest service center, a 137-door facility located at the convergence of a number of major thoroughfares and near two important ports. The Portland Service Center, located at 146 N. Gertz Rd. in Portland, OR  97217, replaces a smaller facility at 9010 NE 13th Ave. in Portland, OR  97211. The Thomasville, N.C.-based less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier, which is over 80 years old, has operated in the former Portland facility for seven years. The expansion was a response to a significant increase in shipment growth at the previous facility over the past seven years. Old Dominion offers premium services at all of its 223 service centers nationwide, including domestic LTL, global, expedited and household moving. “The expanded service center ensures we have the room to grow and shows our commitment to the area,” said Jeff Lorenzini, manager of Old Dominion’s Portland Service Center. “We will continue to offer the premium service our customers have come to expect.” The state-of-the-art facility — strategically located near major interstates and the ports of Portland, Vancouver, Kalama and Longview — features LED lighting through the center, a two-story office, an on-site truck scale and fuel and maintenance facilities. This site is located alongside the Historic Portland Meadows racetrack established in 1945. Since the new site is located in the Columbia Slough Watershed, Old Dominion worked with the Portland Bureau of Environmental Services to develop a customized storm drain to protect this sensitive area. As part of the system, vegetated storm water facilities were installed, and the site accomplishes a 90 percent treatment goal by directing to basins where it infiltrates through select vegetation and systems installed specifically to remove pollutants. The Portland Service Center serves a number of cities in the area, including Beaverton, Hillsboro, Tillamook, Tigard, Tualatin, Wilsonville, McMinnville, Woodburn, Salem, Clackamas, Gresham, Sandy, Hood River, The Dalles, Vancouver, Washougal Woodland and Longview.
