The Port of Everett, second only to the Port of Seattle in Washington State, exported more than $12.6 billion in cargo in 2011, representing a 29 percent growth over the previous year. The top five spots goes to the Port of Los Angeles, Port of Long Beach, Port of Oakland, Port of Seattle and the Port of Everett.
“Our seaport is small but mighty,” Executive Director John Mohr said. “Our shipping terminals support the local aerospace industry, which is a key economic driver in our region.”
“We make it our strategic priority to establish a strong job base in our community. With more than 40 percent of jobs tied to trade in Washington state, we spend a great deal of time looking at ways to expand our cargo handling capabilities,” Mohr said.
The Port of Everett, located just 25 miles north of Seattle, supports nearly 35,000 jobs in Snohomish County and the region. Its natural deep-water port supports the construction and manufacturing industries, including all of the oversized parts for the 747, 767 and 777 airplane programs.
Currently, the Port of Everett is working to further enhance its trade capabilities by constructing a roll-on/roll-off dock to better accommodate aerospace, military, construction and agricultural cargoes. The Port is also continually evaluating terminal expansion opportunities to further enhance our ability to meet the job needs of our community.
