At the recent Pacific Maritime Association's 59th Annual Safety Awards Banquets held at various locations on the West Coast, Ports America was honored with several awards for its achievements in workplace safety, including 1st Place Coast Award Group A Stevedore for its Los Angeles/Long Beach operations and 1st Place Coast Award Group C Container for its Portland operations. Ports America set a record in its Group A Stevedore category with nine first-place coast awards in the past 11 years.

Additionally, Ports America won several 'Area' awards. The Los Angeles/Long Beach stevedore operations won the 1st Place Lowest Injury Rate Area Award Group A Stevedore and Reduced Injury/Illness Incident Rate Certificate.

The San Diego operations garnered 1st Place Lowest Injury Rate Group C Stevedore as well as Reduced Injury/Illness Incident Rate Certificate.

In the Washington PMA area, the Ports America container operations in Puget Sound received 1st Place Lowest Injury Rate Group B Container Operations.

In addition to Portland's 1st Place Coast Award Group C Container, Vancouver operations were recognized with two Oregon area first place awards: 1st Place Lowest Injury Rate Group A and 1st Place Lowest Injury Rate Group B Stevedore.

Also in the Pacific Northwest area, Ports America in Vancouver received 2nd Place Group B Stevedore Lowest Injury Rate ' Area Level.

Ports America Senior VP Port Services Dave Adam commented on the company's overall accomplishments.

'Safety has always been a top priority in all Ports America operations, as demonstrated through the ISO registration of all regional safety departments,' Adam said. 'However, we know these achievements represent a group effort that could not have been accomplished without the tremendous support of our ILWU labor force.'

Ports America is the largest terminal operator and stevedore in the Americas.
