Andrea Hermer has joined the Ports of Indiana as general counsel for the statewide port authority. Hermer comes to the Ports of Indiana with 23 years of legal experience, predominantly specializing in commercial real estate.

“Andrea’s depth of knowledge and experience in commercial real estate will be extremely beneficial to our organization and the companies at our ports,” said Ports of Indiana CEO Rich Cooper. “The Ports of Indiana manages over 2,600 acres of the state’s most valuable industrial property along the Ohio River and Lake Michigan, and we are pleased to have someone with her qualifications join our senior management team.”

Hermer was a partner in the Real Estate and Environmental Practice Group at Benesch, Friedlander, Coplan and Aronoff and also served as in-house counsel for Duke Realty Corporation, one of the largest publicly-traded owners and developers of industrial, office and healthcare properties in the United States.

Most recently, Hermer was an attorney with the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) where she worked on several significant projects in Indiana’s historic “Major Moves” highway improvement initiative, including the U.S. 31 Hamilton County Project and I-69 construction. She also was recognized for her leadership and innovation at INDOT with the “Right Stuff” award in December 2011 and “Leadership” award in April 2013.

“This is a great opportunity to meld my experience in private commercial development with my specialized experience in public transportation projects in a way to help advance economic development at the ports and the state,” said Hermer. “I look forward to working with companies seeking to develop and grow their businesses at the ports.”
