There are reports that the ILWU and the PMA are passing proposals back and forth. It is cumbersome because the ILWU brought 90 of their officers to San Francisco to “caucus”. So each proposal and counter gets vetted by most if not all of the 90. No word on specifics, but some of our sources who have been on the inside of these longshore negotiations previously, say this is ‘feeling’ like real progress. Nonetheless, the union continues its slowdown at the docks. The general media’s attention is helping: below is last night’s Seattle evening news story on impact; thank you AgTC member National Frozen Foods Corp. for stepping up to be interviewed - the question that the Journal of Commerce and the Seattle media are asking: will this slowdown cause shippers to find other (non-US west coast) ports, next year, even permanently? Peter’s Note: One wonders when the ILWU (whose jurisdiction is limited to US west coast docks) will understand that their actions are jeopardizing their own children’s’ opportunities to work those docks?
