Transport equipment owners, operators and other service providers have been invited to join the Project Professionals Group following the overdimensional freight forwarding network's decision to introduce new membership categories.

PPG general manager Kevin Stephens said the initiative was discussed and approved at the organization's annual conference hosted by the Port of Corpus Christi in Texas from July 29 to August 1.

He said the new membership category would be known as Project Support Members and would include stevedores, owners of heavy haulage and multi-axle trailers and specialist engineering equipment, ship and aircraft operators, air cargo handling specialists, crane companies, barge owners and operators, port authorities, surveyors, insurance companies, export packers and other service providers to the heavy lift freight forwarding industry.

'PPG is a successful international organization and the new membership category makes our network a truly one-stop shop for the freight forwarding industry allowing reputable third-party providers a unique opportunity to network and integrate their services,' Mr. Stephens said.

'Membership will be one member per category in each major city or region and the service provider in the new membership category must not be in conflict with our existing members or compete against them in project forwarding,' Mr. Stephens said.

The PPG web site has been upgraded to include the new category of membership, and expressions of interest are welcome.

The benefits of PPG membership included access to a network of proven logistics partners, invitation to attend the annual conference and opportunities to attend PPG training courses.
