The largest dedicated project freight forwarding organization in the world has strengthened its representation in Southern China with the appointment of Wangfoong Logistics Ltd with its headquarters in Hong Kong.

PPG general manager Kevin Stephens said the appointment took the organization's global representation to 125 members in 89 countries.

He said Wangfoong Logistics had excellent heavy lift capabilities on land and sea with provision of special equipment including floating cranes with lifting capabilities of up to 500 tons. Other skills included road transportation for outsized and heavy cargo and breakbulk loading and discharging of barges and vessels.

The company operates it own barges and vessels for container movement as well as heavy project shipments. All of its barges are equipped with derricks for cargo lifting purpose. Wangfoong is one of the few service providers that operates its own river port terminal by itself in Hong Kong.

Since its formation in 1980, Wangfoong has been involved with a number of impressive projects including Shajiao power station, Air Show China in Zuhai, Macau Coloane Power Station Project, Shenzhen Development Centre Project, Zhuhai Power Station Project, Hong Kong Jockey Club and the world's first retractable roof and Hong Kong Disneyland.

Meanwhile, US-based PPG member TransGroup Worldwide logistics has been heavily involved in the grand opening ceremony of the $US1.5 billion Atlantis The Palm resort in Dubai. The complex opened in September and is set on 46 hectares with 17 hectares of water and marine park entertainment attractions.

'TransGroup transported all the water park equipment including the shark and dolphin tanks and pyramid water slide.''TransGroup also shipped all furniture and hotel supplies including live fish, seahorses and anemones'for the huge aquarium. Thirteen tons of lighting and stage equipment, four tons'of special effects equipment was also delivered. The fireworks display for the official opening required six 40' containers of Class 1 explosives from China and the USA. All but the fireworks will be returned to the US by TransGroup.
