Leader in rail industry technology services reinvests in IT infrastructure software, systems and people to maintain technology advantage

Railinc announced that it has increased its annual investment in IT infrastructure and staffing to maintain its status as a leader in data network transactions. Railinc compiles, processes and manages more daily transactions than any other provider of information services in the transportation industry. The financial commitment by Railinc in IT infrastructure includes a long-term agreement with Affiliated Computer Services Inc, ACS - a Fortune 500 company that provides business process and technology outsourcing solutions to world-class commercial and government clients.

Railinc is investing millions of dollars each year in IT improvements. Recent investments include a new IBM mainframe, Sun Microsystems midrange systems, and an EMC Disk that will ensure seamless service to over 460 railroads and their customers in North America. Memory and CPU processor upgrades are routine practices that keep Railinc's data management capabilities on top of any foreseeable spike or growth in usage. New software and monitoring tools provide real-time statistics to Railinc's IT and Customer Support personnel giving them immediate access to specific information needed to support customers.

"Railinc annually invests substantially in our IT infrastructure and staff because we are driven to maintain a 'best in class' reliable rail data network," said Allen West, Railinc's Vice President of Information Technology. "We exploit the talents of support companies like ACS to broaden our technology review and exposure to global best practices. Year after year, Railinc has reinvested dominant portions of our revenue back into our IT infrastructure to ensure we have the best available blend of hardware, software, and people resources to support our customers. That includes in-depth discussions with industry analysts, IT leaders, and vendors to uncover and adopt the most reliable and secure systems available on the market."

"We support some of the country's largest and most technologically advanced companies," said Mark King, President and Chief Operating Office of ACS. "Railinc not only stands out as a leader in daily transaction volume but in the reliability and security of its network. Our partnership ensures that Railinc will maintain that status, but Railinc's own commitment and willingness to reinvestment in technology and IT staff is the true testament to their commitment to customers."
