Railinc Corp. announced it has been named a winner at the 2009 NCTA 21 Awards in the category of 'Industry Driven Technology Company.' The NCTA 21 Awards are recognized as North Carolina's most prestigious technology awards, celebrating innovation and excellence in the state. This annual showcase honors companies and individuals in 21 categories who represent the best and brightest in technology and business.

'Railinc is honored to be recognized among such well-known and respected leaders in the technology industry,' said Allen West, CEO and president. 'This award acknowledges the important work that our people do for the freight rail industry, and shows why Railinc is one of the best places to work in North Carolina.'

Using its systems and applications, Railinc's customers keep the North American rail system moving seamlessly, transparently, efficiently and safely. In 2009, Railinc created unprecedented value for the rail system with the implementation of the new Umler system and the upgrade of the industry's Embargoes application for Class 1 and short line railroads. The company is also an industry leader in Agile development, a process that more fully engages customers and improves the pace of product development.

'This year's 21 Awards truly showcase the best technology and innovation that our state has to offer,' said Brooks Raiford, president and chief executive officer of NCTA. 'We couldn't be more pleased to congratulate Railinc as a company that is leading North Carolina's technology industry.'

Winners were recognized at NCTA's annual awards gala on November 12 in Cary, N.C., presented in conjunction with title sponsor Grant Thornton.

The North Carolina Technology Association's mission is 'Making North Carolina #1 in Technology and Technology #1 in North Carolina.' The organization does this through three main focus areas: executive engagement, public affairs and enabling member transition to a technology-enabled workforce.
