Rutges Cargo, part of the Wallenborn Group, is to participate in the demonstration program 'Truck of the Future' being executed by TNO in assignment of the Netherlands' Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment.

TNO will be collaborating with various companies in the transport sector and suppliers of fuel saving systems.

The aim of the project is to identify possible fuel savings for the freight transportation sector based on various technologies and practices. The focus is on systems that lower resistance, stimulate fuel management and support drivers to drive in an economical way. The findings of the research will be made available to the transport sector in the Netherlands.

Martin Gussinklo, Managing Director of Rutges Cargo: "We consider the sustainable and accountable transport of goods to be an important responsibility. Our participation in the program endorses this principle and will explore how an aerodynamic side fence fitted to our trailer decreases air resistance.

"In addition to this involvement, Rutges Cargo has initiated an investment in innovative technology to achieve lower resistance, for example via the implementation of 'spraydown' mudguards that lower air resistance. We will also install a system to monitor tire pressure in order to achieve a lower rolling resistance. These initiatives will reduce our fuel usage and CO2 emissions and are in line with our ambition to achieve greater efficiency and to improve our carbon footprint."
