Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) has signed a contract to perform all cargo handling in the Nordic region for Singapore Airlines Cargo.

The new agreement will take effect on February 1, 2009 and covers all Scandinavian stations, including Finland.

Singapore Airlines Cargo's Nordic hub is Copenhagen Airport, where WFS opened a new purpose-built cargo terminal in 2006. WFS will provide all cargo handling for the airline at the airport and throughout the Nordic region, working closely with Singapore Airlines' road transport partner, HCS.

A new ground-handling contract with WFS at Copenhagen Airport will also commence in February next year.

Singapore Airlines Cargo operates five freighter flights a week between Copenhagen and Singapore in addition to the cargo capacity offered onboard its passenger services on the same route. Counting flown and trucked import and export cargo as well as shipments exported via other European hubs, the airline's total volumes to and from the Scandinavian markets are approximately 40,000 tons per year.

Olivier Bijaoui, President and CEO of WFS, said: 'Our growth in Scandinavia since the opening of our new cargo terminal in Copenhagen has been tremendous and we have clearly demonstrated our commitment to the region. Singapore Airlines Cargo has been with its previous supplier in Copenhagen since it first commenced operations into Denmark so winning this prestigious customer is a proud achievement for WFS.'
