Singapore Airlines Cargo has extended its cargo handling agreement with Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) in the UK and Ireland with a new contract covering Dublin, Shannon and Cork.

This is in addition to the airline's decision to renew its existing handling contract with WFS at Manchester Airport for a further three years.

Singapore Airlines has a long-standing working relationship with WFS. In Manchester, WFS provides cargo reception and handling services for cargo carried on the airline's Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday Boeing 777 flights to Singapore. This schedule will increase to five flights a week for the summer 2010 schedule with the addition of Monday and Friday flights, all operating via Munich.

From Manchester, WFS also prepares cargo originating in the North of England for Singapore Airline's B747-400 freighter operations from London Heathrow and Europe.

Simon Coomber, Manager UK & Ireland for Singapore Airlines, said: 'We have a good partnership with WFS in Manchester that works really well. They understand our products and customer service requirements and work well with our own team. They were also able to provide the cost and quality we needed. In Ireland, WFS provided us with the three station solution we wanted and, again, we have trust in the local team's awareness of our product and their professionalism.'

Cliff McKrell, WFS' Operations Director in the UK, said: 'It was important for us to retain such an important customer as Singapore Airlines and even more pleasing to be extending our contract to include Ireland. The airline's plan to gradually upgrade its Manchester flights from B777-200 to B777-300 operations will also increase volumes as the larger aircraft can carry up to 20 tonnes, 11 tonnes more than the B777-200. Our aim is to continue to provide the high service levels Singapore Airlines enjoys from WFS to ensure they fill this extra capacity.'
