National 3PL and order fulfillment provider, SP Express, released record-breaking 2014 Q4 performance data this month. Package volume doubled over the same period in 2013, while measures of accuracy, quality, and speed remained above 99.9%. Q4 inventory accuracy was 99.98% and order accuracy was 99.94% with an average dock to stock time of 6.5 hours. Shipping service level met in December was 99.98%. Niel Randall, VP of Sales and Marketing, attributes the company's Q4 success to proactive planning and investment in systems and people. "We invest heavily in intelligent systems, a flexible workforce, and high quality personnel," he says, "combined with advanced planning and our continuous improvement process." SP Express's proprietary technologies leverage efficiency algorithms to optimize picking and packaging activities on the front line, while providing up-to-the-minute data and notifications to customers and internal personnel on inventory, holds, requests, and packages in transit. A flexible workforce allows SP Express to adjust instantly to changes in demand, scaling personnel up and down to serve unpredictable peaks in volume. At the same time, the company continually invests in top performing facility managers, process and control personnel, and internal leadership. The release of the 2014 Q4 data marks the start of SP Express's planning process for the next holiday season. "We're happy with our results," says Randall. "But we're also looking at what could be better, what changes we can make to improve in 2015." The company plans to significantly increase national and international footprint in the coming year, and to introduce process and systems innovations that will continue to lead the industry. "It all boils down to proactive planning," says Randall, "and to never being satisfied. We're always improving, looking at the numbers and the KPI's, and asking, 'how can we make this even better?'"
