Exports of steel increased in October by 0.7% over September according to government data.' 'Exports in October were essentially unchanged, with a 16.3% increase in exports to Mexico the primary reason for the small increase,' said David Phelps, president, AIIS.

'Exports of steel for the year to date period continue to run ahead of 2009, by 35.6% through 10 months.' Many markets for American made steel consume high value products, such as the Asian market, whose imports of American steel were nearly 40% either alloy or stainless products,' concluded Phelps.


Total Steel exports in October 2010 were 995.1 thousand tons compared to 988. 3 thousand tons in September 2010, a 0.7% increase, and a 1.2% increase compared to October 2009. According to year-to-date figures, exports increased'35.6% compared to 2009 or from 7.4 million tons in 2009 to 10.1 million tons in 2010.
