The Super Bowl XLVII roman numerals, standing 30 feet high and 100 feet wide, floated down the Mississippi River by barge and docked near the French Quarter to much fanfare on Jan. 31, 2013. The arrival of the precious cargo at the Port’s Bienville Street Wharf officially opened the Verizon Super Bowl Boulevard with built-in monitors showing NFL video highlights, followed by a fireworks show. Zito Fleeting LLC oversaw transport of the numerals from their fleet upriver in Jefferson, La. The barge will be docked displaying the numerals throughout Super Bowl weekend.

XLVII ARRIVAL

“This is truly an exciting time for the Port of New Orleans and the City,” said Port President and CEO Gary LaGrange. “To play a role in hosting Super Bowl XLVII, both from a cargo and security perspective, is a privilege and an honor.”

The Super Bowl also marks the first multi-agency operation to be conducted in the Port of New Orleans Maritime Security Operations Center – one of five new maritime security interagency operations centers located on the Lower Mississippi River. In support of the event, a team of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies are working together from the Center to provide a coordinated safe and secure environment for Super Bowl participants and the general public.
