Target expands in Asia with new Vietnam station

Target Logistic Services, Inc. is expanding its Asian operations with a new station in Vietnam. The new facility is in partnership with Sky Logistic Services, Ltd., one of the most experienced and diversified logistics companies in that nation.

Sky Logistic Services, head quartered in Hochiminh City (formerly Saigon), is considered one of the leading transportation and logistics organizations in Vietnam. The company offers a wide range of logistic services including air and ocean freight forwarding, customs clearance, packaging and packing, project cargo services and local business consultation and management. Sky Logistic's managing director, Mr. Jacky Vo and has staff have been involved in all facets of Vietnamese cargo activities almost since the nation became independent more than a generation ago.

In announcing Target's newest expansion effort into an Asian nation, Chris Coppersmith, President & CEO stated, "Vietnam is a remarkable country. Laid waste thirty years ago by war and political dissension, it is humming with commerce and industry today. Capitalism has taken root in Vietnam. The nation is becoming an increasing force in Asian-US commerce. Working in partnership with Sky Logistic Services, Target expects to become a growing participant in the expansion of this trade."

Coppersmith said that Vietnamese apparel and textile plants, which didn't exist just a few years ago, are becoming a rising factor in the export of these goods to the US. The nation also has assembly plants ringing the principal cities of Hochiminh and Hanoi that are churning out electronic and computer parts in increasing numbers," he stated.

"The country's leaders realize that foreign trade is a vital path to Vietnamese growth and prosperity."

The CEO noted, "Target already has a commanding presence in Asia. We have offices in the principal commercial centers of China as well as in Singapore, Penang, Hong Kong and Manila with representation in Tokyo. Vietnam is a key building block in forging a complete Target supply chain network in Asia," he added.

Coppersmith said that Sky Logistic Services now is being linked to Target's worldwide IT system for instant tracking and retrieval. "They now are part of Target's worldwide electronic network," he concluded.
