Towne Air Freight (Towne) announced that the company has acquired Texas Land and Air (TXLA) further expanding Towne's air and ocean freight trucking operation.

TXLA, with sales of nearly $15 million in 2008, is a strategic addition to Towne's portfolio adding nearly 100 employees and contractors along with nine new cities to its nationwide trucking network. This increases the total number of locations served to 61. New cities served include: Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), Houston (IAH), Austin (AUS), San Antonio (SAT), McAllen (MFE), Brownsville (BRO), Laredo (LRD), Harlingen (HRL) and Corpus Christi (CRP) as well as local coverage to a large portion of the state of Texas.

'We're excited to extend Towne services to the Texas market and welcome the TXLA associates and customers to the Towne Team,' said Tom Downey, Towne's President and CEO. 'Our overlapping values of Customer Care leave a clear path to incorporating Towne's nationwide Airport-to-Airport, local cartage, exclusive use trucking and warehouse services into the Texas market.'

'This deal is a successful culmination of a business plan to eventually grow with a larger company. All of the great people at TXLA are looking forward to continuing our record of success with Towne,' said Todd Bennett, CEO of Texas Land and Air.

This transaction highlights a streak of success in Towne's recent history. The acquisition of TXLA is number three in as many years and according to the July 13, 2009 issue of Transport Topics, Towne Air Freight earned the designation of third fastest growing carrier in 2008.

'Our employees, financial partners and owners have displayed a great deal of commitment and enthusiasm to bring an aggressive business strategy to fruition,' said Downey. 'The dedication and confidence at every level of the organization has allowed us to acquire companies, maintain extraordinary growth and position Towne Air Freight for long-term success.'
