Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) ' the leading air cargo terminal operator in Hong Kong ' has joined Cargo 2000. The company says the move can serve as a solid foundation for Hactl to establish more transparent performance indicators with airlines, freight forwarders and other industry players.

Hactl handled 2.63 million tons of air cargo in 2007, representing over 70% of air cargo throughput at Hong Kong International Airport. Its US$1 billion SuperTerminal 1, opened in 1998 at Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok, is the largest single air cargo terminal in the world with a potential capacity to handle 3.5 million tons per annum. In total, the company serves more than 90 airlines and 1,000 freight forwarders.

Hactl says it acknowledges Cargo 2000 as an industry-recognized management tool for measuring quality and efficiency. It also sees advantages from Cargo 2000 working closely with IATA's e-freight program, which is aimed at bringing in a new paperless era for the entire air cargo industry.

Kenneth Bell, Director of Service Delivery for Hactl, said: 'Hactl's participation in Cargo 2000 underlines our continuous commitment to offer premier cargo handling services to our customers. By working with Cargo 2000, we hope to benefit from streamlined processes and a more transparent working environment in the future, further facilitating the movement of cargo within SuperTerminal 1 and a more efficient and effective cargo solution for our airline customers and business partners.'

Tom Presnail, Cargo 2000's Regional Director, Asia Pacific, commented: 'Hactl's decision to join Cargo 2000 is clearly a significant boost to our quality program in the region as the company has been admired for its leading role and innovation for many years. By adhering to Cargo 2000's requirements, Hactl will update its customers precisely and promptly, according to the agreed-upon protocol, enhancing the transparency of its cargo handling processes and the competitiveness of customers using its services.'
