Bi-state award is fourth in three years from Los Angeles and New Jersey carriers.

For the fourth time in three years, a major port truckers' association has honored global containership leader APL for outstanding terminal management in the U.S. The latest recognition comes from the Port Newark, NJ-based Association of Bi-State Motor Carriers.

Bi-State truckers this month named APL's South Kearny, NJ, container terminal the Best Off-Pier Terminal serving the ports of New York and New Jersey. It was the second time in two years the association has presented the award to APL.

'We're grateful for the recognition,' said Mike Noone, APL Vice President and Managing Director of the Eastern Region. "It's a well-earned honor for the team we've assembled and testimony to their customer commitment.'

The tribute extends a pattern of coast-to-coast recognition for APL terminal excellence. In 2005 and 2006, the California Truckers' Association named APL's Global Gateway South the Fastest and Best Overall Marine Terminal at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.

The awards are significant, coming from two of the nation's largest and most important trucking organizations. And they reflect APL's terminal-operating philosophy that emphasizes port trucker satisfaction.

'When truckers come through our gate, they are our customers,' said Noone. 'That means we've got to treat them well and get them back on the road quickly.'

APL's South Kearny terminal is situated near the major New York and New Jersey marine terminals and adjacent to a major New Jersey rail ramp. It's considered one of the most efficient terminals in the port area. Truckers on average need only 26 minutes to conduct a dual transaction ' delivery and pick-up -- at APL's Kearny terminal.
