The US Treasury will announce the appointment of Alan Holmer, a former pharmaceutical lobbyist and deputy US trade representative, to be Treasury's point man on trade with China, the Financial Times reported.

In an interview with the newspaper, US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said Holmer will run the US-China "strategic economic dialogue," which the secretary launched in December to tackle thorny bilateral trade and currency issues.

Holmer will be charged with specific "deliverables" and was chosen because of his record as a negotiator, Paulson told the newspaper. (Reuters)
