Vietnam's coffee exports in August jumped 57.4 percent from the same month last year to an estimated 85,000 tons, or 1.42 million bags, the government said.

August shipment brought exports of the commodity in the first 11 months of the 2009/2010 coffee crop year to 1.12 million tons, or 18.61 million 60-kg bags, up 4.0 percent from a year earlier, the General Statistics Office said in its monthly report.

Vietnam's coffee crop year lasts from October through September, starting with a four-month harvest.

The office revised down its figure for July shipment to 89,000 tons from 90,000 tons in its previous estimate.

August shipment brought coffee exports from Vietnam, the world's second-largest producer after Brazil, to 834,700 tonnes, or 13.91 million bags, in the first eight months of 2010, down 1.9 percent from the same period last year, the report said.

Revenues in the eight-month period reached $1.2 billion, or 5.1 percent below revenues for the same period in 2009, the report said.
