Volga-Dnepr Airlines has delivered lifts and escalators for the modernisation of the National Belarus Airport from Shanghai in China to Minsk, Republic of Belarus. The flight was operated under the Ruslan International joint venture. The An-124-100 ‘Ruslan’ aircraft carried eight elevators and four escalators, weighing a total of 85 tons. The largest pieces of the cargo were loaded using the freighter’s onboard cranes, while smaller shipments were placed into the cargo hold using automated loaders. In preparation for this flight, Volga-Dnepr’s experts had conducted a inspection of the cargo to help with load planning. The lifts and escalators, produced by the Chinese company OTIS, are part of a new reconstruction and improvement programme for the airport, which began earlier this year.
