Breakthrough order in Japanese shipbuilding market sees largest ever capacity Maritime Protection IG units delivered for leading domestic owners Oslo, Norway, July 23, 2014. Wilhelmsen Technical Solutions has secured multiple orders to supply its Maritime Protection Dry Inert Gas Generator (DIGG) systems for installation on LNG carriers under construction at Japan Marine United’s Tsu shipyard. Two DIGG units will be installed on two gas carriers under construction for Japanese owners Tokyo LNG Tanker Co., Ltd./Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd (first vessel) and Tokyo LNG Tanker Co., Ltd./NYK Line (second vessel). Maritime Protection Managing Director, Steinar Andersen said: “We are delighted to be working with JMU on these orders, which confirm Wilhelmsen Technical Solutions amongst the leaders in the supply of Dry Inert Gas Generator systems to LNG as well as LPG carriers. These orders are a breakthrough for WTS in the Japanese market where our DIGG systems have been chosen as a ‘state of the art’ solution, positioned for the future LNG gas carrier market.” The MP DIGG system comprises an inert gas generator, refrigeration unit and a combined cooler/dryer and will be delivered to the yard in 2016. Among the reasons for the selection of the system is that it occupies much less space and volume in the engine room compared with competitive units. WTS is also fulfilling orders for Maritime Protection DIGG systems for VLGC/LPG carriers built by Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, Hyundai Samho Shipyard and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.
