TASCO - Berhad, Yusen Logistics subsidiary in Malaysia, has acquired halal certification, issued on 16th April by the Malaysian government’s certification organization, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM). The two certifications, “MS2400-1”, required for transportation, and “MS2400-2”, required for warehousing, were acquired simultaneously – a first for a Japanese logistics company. The MS2400-1 halal certification applies to 25 vehicles located at TASCO's main operating facilities, based in Penang, Malacca, Selangor, and Johor. MS2400-2 applies to the Penang Prai Logistics Center, allowing for halal handling in a space measuring approximately 9,000m².
In addition to using trucks and warehouses to provide logistics services within Malaysia for halal foods, cosmetics, medicine, and more, TASCO aims to create a one-stop halal logistics service by linking the company’s halal know-how in Malaysia to its global network. In 2015, the global halal market is expected to be worth 320 trillion Japanese yen, making it a market to watch. Following the company’s Medium-Term Business Plan, “GO FORWARD,” Yusen Logistics is focusing on food as a growing industry segment and positioning Malaysia as a priority region. With the expectation of continued growth in the halal market, Yusen will concentrate on supporting customer logistics and strengthening sales within the sector.
