Experienced logistics expert to take over at LCC, effective 1 April 2008Dr. Andreas Jahnke has been appointed the new head of the Lufthansa Cargo Center in Frankfurt. The 41 year-old logistics expert is taking up his post in charge of the cargo carrier’s biggest airfreight transhipment center, worldwide, with effect from 1 April 2008. After taking a doctorate in biology, Dr. Jahnke began his professional career as management consultant specialising in logistics and process optimisation at the Boston Consulting Group. From 2000 to 2003, he was co-founder, board member and, latterly, chairman of benelog, a Cologne-based company specialising in providing logistics services. In 2003, Dr. Jahnke joined the Kaufland company in Neckarsulm, where he set up an international unit responsible for the procurement of transport and logistics services. He subsequently moved to the Schwarz Group as general manager in charge of logistics in the Czech Republic. He is currently employed at the arvato logistics subsidiary of Bertelsmann AG. In view of the breadth of his experience, we are convinced that Dr. Jahnke is the ideal man for this position.’ As Manager of the Lufthansa Cargo Center (LCC), Dr. Jahnke will be responsible for operating the biggest logistics center in the airfreight industry, worldwide. Built in 1982, the LCC in CargoCity North at Frankfurt Airport encompasses indoor floor space of around 70,000 square metres. Around 1.56 million tonnes of airfreight are trans-shipped at the LCC yearly, which is equivalent to about 80 per cent of the total tonnage carried by Lufthansa Cargo. The Lufthansa Cargo Center employs about 1,350 people on the permanent staff and ’ seasonally ’ up to 800 other employees provided by service companies.
