International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) announces the appointment of Christian R. Gonzalez as acting Head of Asian Region concurrent with his roles as Vice President and General Manager of the Manila International Container Terminal (MICT). The appointment takes effect 15 August 2012. At the same time, ICTSI announces the retirement of Edgardo Q. Abesamis as Executive Vice President also effective 15 August. Following his retirement, the Office of the Executive Vice President will be dissolved. He will, however, continue to maintain his chairmanship and directorship in several subsidiaries on a non-executive capacity. Prior to heading up the MICT in 2008, Mr. Gonzalez was the director general and chief executive officer of Madagascar International Container Terminal Services Ltd. from 2005. He joined ICTSI in 1997, and worked in various operations departments at the MICT before being appointed Operations Manager in 2003. Gonzalez is a graduate of Instituto de Estudios Superiores de la Empresa Business School, the graduate school of management of the University of Navarra, in Barcelona, Spain, where he received his Bilingual Masters in Business Administration. He is also a graduate of Business Administration from Pepperdine University in California. Abesamis, on the other hand, had been with ICTSI for 24 years, holding the position of Executive Vice President since 1995. Prior to that, he was senior vice president for operations since 1988. As Executive Vice President, he oversaw business development and operations of Philippine and Asian terminals. He was appointed chairman, director and president of a number of ICTSI subsidiaries and affiliates in the Philippines and abroad.
