The animal was also taken to the wild animal preservation institution Sao Paulo - After the successful transport of two brown ursos from Fortaleza to Sao Paulo in August of this year, LATAM Cargo Brazil has carried out the air transport of one more bear last night (October 6th). This time, the animal was shipped from the Salvador airport to Sao Paulo in association with the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA). The animal will be taken to an ecological sanctuary in the inner area of Sao Paulo, where other two ursos already live. For this trip, LATAM Cargo first transported the shipping box specially made for the transfer of this species. The box went from Sao Paulo to Salvador so the animal could travel safely. The bear journey was carried out in a model B767-300 aircraft with a total weight of more than 500 kg and was accompanied by veterinarians and specialists from the animal defense institute that will receive the animal in Sao Paulo. The animal lived in the state of Sergipe and was transported by land to the Salvador airport, which has the capacity to receive larger aircraft, a necessary condition for the bear to be transported. The process of preparing the aircraft and boarding began 4 hours before the flight departure and involved more than 15 LATAM Cargo officials. The bear will be received by the "Rancho dos Gnomos” Ecological Sanctuary Association (ASERG), a specialist in the preservation of wildlife that receives animals seized in caution and victims of mistreatment. The partnership between LATAM Cargo Brazil and IBAMA began in 2009 and has already made possible the free transportation of more than 4,500 thousand animals in projects aimed at the preservation of Brazilian fauna.

Sawmill profit margins have fallen substantially in North America over the past 12 months with BC sawmills margins in the 2Q/19 being close to their lowest levels in 15 years, reports the Wood Resource Quarterly Costs for sawlogs declined in most major regions around the world in the first half of 2019. However, lumber prices have fallen faster in key markets resulting in lower profits for sawmills, particularly in British Columbia, the US South and Eastern Russia, according to the Wood Resource Quarterly. Seattle, USA. Lower lumber prices and only small adjustments in sawlog costs in the 2Q/19, sawmills in North America saw their profit margins decline again after a short-lived improvement in the 1Q/19. Although margins have fallen quite substantially in the US South the past year, reaching a three-year low, they are still higher than the 15-year average as tracked by the WRQ. Small changes in log costs together with lower income from lumber and residual sales have taken the gross margins for sawmills in British Columbia down to their lowest levels since the Global Financial Crisis back in 2009. In the 2Q/19, these margins areless than half of their ten-year average (see chart).

The U.K. stepped up preparations for a no-deal Brexit in three weeks’ time as negotiations with the European Union headed toward a breakdown. In a call on Tuesday morning, Boris Johnson told German Chancellor Angela Merkel a divorce agreement is essentially impossible if the EU demands Northern Ireland must stay in the bloc’s customs union. Johnson spoke later to Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar and the two agreed to meet for talks before the end of the week.
