The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People issued a travel advisory against American Airlines Group Inc., citing “a pattern of disturbing incidents reported by African-American passengers.” The reports “suggest a corporate culture of racial insensitivity and possible racial bias on the part of American Airlines,” the civil-rights organization said by email Tuesday. The NAACP cited four instances of potential discrimination against black passengers and called for a meeting with the airline to discuss its concerns. American said it would invite representatives of the organization to company headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas. “We do not and will not tolerate discrimination of any kind,” American Chief Executive Officer Doug Parker said in a memo to workers Wednesday. The carrier’s employees “endorse and facilitate” the NAACP’s mission of removing all racial discrimination on a daily basis, he said. American was disappointed to learn of the travel advisory because its employees, “a diverse community of gate agents, pilots, and flight attendants –- are proud to serve customers of all backgrounds,” Shannon Gilson, a spokeswoman for American, said in an earlier statement. In August, the NAACP issued a travel advisory for the state of Missouri, the group’s first for a state, citing a “series of questionable, race-based incidents.”
