Industry veteran chosen for new post, will manage business in the Americas

Global supply chain leader APL Logistics today created a new executive-level position to grow its warehousing business and selected an industry veteran to fill it.

John Hurst has been named Vice President of Warehouse Management Services for APL Logistics in the Americas. He takes immediate control of an organization with 2,000 employees and 15.2 million square feet of warehouse space in North, Central and South America.

'We're one of the largest managers of warehouse space in the market,' said John Bowe, President of APL and APL Logistics in the Americas. 'Creating this new post will help us grow Warehouse Management Services as an integral part of our international supply chain services and help us respond to customer demand.'

Hurst, an 18-year logistics veteran, had been Managing Director for APL Logistics in Atlanta. In his new role he assumes all sales and operational responsibility for Warehouse Management Services.

The position is a new one at APL Logistics. Until now, warehousing had been one of the responsibilities of the Vice President of Logistics. With today's announcement, the business gains heightened representation on the company's management team in the Americas. It also gains veteran leadership.

Hurst joined APL Logistics in 1996 as a Group General Manager in City of Industry, CA. He began his career with CEVA Logistics in 1989. In his new role Hurst is responsible for 64 Warehouse Management Services facilities in five countries. Hurst will be based in Atlanta.
