For the 33rd consecutive year, Port Freeport received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its 2021 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).

“This award represents the ongoing commitment to excellence in providing accurate, transparent financial reporting of the port’s results. I have great admiration for the efforts made by the Finance Department and entire port staff in achieving this recognition.,” Rob Lowe, CFO, said.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

“The Port’s accounting and financial reporting system is maintained at the highest national standard possible demonstrated by this award. This is achieved through the exemplary commitment of our Controller, Mary Campus, and the Finance team,” Port Commission Chairman John Hoss said. “On behalf of the Port Commission, we are proud to see the Department’s dedication rewarded with this special recognition for work they do consistently year after year. Not only is the award recognition of the quality of their work, but to maintain this level for 33 years is an entirely different level of achievement that deserves its own recognition.”

The ACFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the ACFR. The GFOA is a major professional association serving more than 21,000 governmental finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL and Washington, D.C.
