System from Latin American
American Science and Engineering, Inc., a leading worldwide supplier of innovative X-ray detection solutions, announced that the company has been awarded a multimillion dollar order from a Latin American country for a Z Portal® vehicle screening system. This Latin American country will deploy the Z Portal system for customs applications to safely and effectively screen cars and trucks for explosive threats, drugs and other contraband.

“This order marks our first Z Portal system sold in Latin America, and the multi-view, drive-through system will be an ideal security tool for high-traffic areas,” said Anthony Fabiano, AS&E’s President and CEO. “The Z Portal system offers a proven high-throughput solution for customs officials to safely, efficiently, and effectively screen vehicles to find hidden threats and contraband.”

About Z Portal System
AS&E's Z Portal is a multi-view, drive-through screening system capable of scanning cars, vans, trucks, and their cargo for concealed threats and contraband. With its compact profile, the Z Portal system is ideal for high-traffic locations with space constraints and a high-throughput requirement. The Z Portal system is safe for drivers, operators, cargo, and the environment. The screening system is available in two sizes – one for large trucks, buses, and cargo vehicles, and a smaller size for passenger vehicles. Z Portal customers include U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Abu Dhabi Customs, and NATO. Safety Assured: The Z Portal system’s low radiation dosage is safe for operators, drivers and the environment and falls well within standards set by The National Council on Radiation Protection and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The Z Portal system conforms to ANSI N43.17: Radiation Safety for Personnel Security Screening Systems Using X-Rays. For comparison, one scan of the Z Portal system is equivalent to flying about 1 minute at altitude (approximately 30,000 ft.) in an airplane.
