Bombardier Inc said that its Chinese joint venture had won a contract for 40 high-speed train sets from China's Ministry of Railways, worth about $761 million.

Bombardier's share of the contract, which was awarded to Bombardier Sifang (Qingdao) Transportation Ltd, or BST, is valued at around $373 million.

BST is a joint venture between Bombardier, the world's No. 1 train manufacturer, and CSR Sifang Rolling Stock Co Ltd.

Each train set has eight cars and can carry a total of 604 passengers with a maximum speed of 250 kilometers (155 miles) per hour.

Deliveries of the cars will begin in September and be completed by the end of May.

In September, BST won a "very high-speed train" contract worth $4 billion from China, which is developing more than 6,000 kilometers of high-speed rail lines. (Reuters)
