MIAMI - Brickell Travel Management (BTM), in collaboration with their client La Colonia Medical Center, has successfully sent a charter plane to deliver relief to Puerto Rico on Friday, October 20th. Together along with clients, vendors, partners and employees, BTM was able to collect over 16,000 lbs. of water, nonperishable food, basic necessities, first aid supplies and rebuilding materials. "We quickly realized that the main issue was not gathering supplies, but being able to deliver them to the island. We feel blessed that we were able to leverage our resources within the travel industry to secure a plane and be able to support the recovery of Puerto Rico," said Michel Rodriguez, President of Operations at BTM. "In a global environment with so much tragedy surrounding us, it's easy to feel helpless and we are just glad to be able to contribute." La Colonia Medical Center's generous donation consisted medical supplies, medicine and generators for Puerto Rico's cancer patients, many of whose lives are at risk and unable to continue treatment in the aftermath of this natural disaster. Among other clients who made generous donations are Bupa Latin America, EFG Capital, INTL FCStone, Safari Ltd, Plastipak, Novi Coffee & Tea, DataCore Software Corporation. Hurricane Maria made landfall as a Category 4 storm in Puerto Rico and devastated the island; powerful winds ripped the roofs off homes, uprooted trees and brought down power lines, leaving 100% of the island and her 3.5 million residents without power, potable water or communication. Many people suffered crippling losses from the storm, and resources have been scarce as the island recovers. Once the charter plane arrived to Puerto Rico, supplies began to be distributed amongst university hospitals throughout the island in collaboration with the Department of Health and ASEM. Brickell Travel Management, a Business Travel Agency serving the top companies across the nation since 2009, has grown from a small operation to an emerging industry leader with annual sales exceeding $100 million. The company has recently relocated its corporate headquarters to the newly renovated 66 West Flagler Street in Downtown Miami, across the street from the Miami-Dade County Courthouse.
