Bromma has been awarded contracts for a total of 62 new spreaders for three port projects in Colombia, Brasil and Kuwait.

In Colombia Bromma has won a new contract for 29 crane spreaders (5 quay crane spreaders and 24 all-electric RTG spreaders) for the expanding Sociedad Portuaria Regional de Cartagena operation in Colombia. The growing port of Cartagena is in the process of expanding its operational capacity to 4.5 million TEUs.

“Bromma is pleased that our partnership with growing Latin American terminals such as Sociedad Portuaria Regional de Cartagena continues to expand,” says Bromma Vice-President and Commercial Director Vikram Raman. “Latin America is an important market – a growth market for Bromma - and we are delighted to be expanding our presence in Colombia with this new order.”

Twin-Lift All-Electric with load-Sensing to Brazil
Also in Latin America, Bromma has won a new order for 13 YTR40E spreaders – Bromma’s innovative twin-lift all-electric spreader for yard operations – for use in Santos, Brasil.

In addition to being twin-lift all-electrics, these spreaders headed to Santos are also noteworthy since they will be equipped with Bromma’s new load-sensing technology, first introduced to the market in June 2010. Bromma load sensing technology is a boost to port safety, as it is designed to identify potentially dangerous lift situations:

  • containers with understated weight information,
  • eccentrically loaded containers,
  • overloaded containers, container snags in the ship cell,
  • containers that are being lifted with one or more twistlocks locked to the container stack or chassis.

In addition to identifying dangerous conditions, the system:

  • Captures and transmits weight data
  • Measures eccentricity
  • Calculates twistlock lifecycle

“The Bromma snag load protection technology on Bromma headers headed to Santos protects worker safety, lowers terminal insurance costs, and prevents property claims and associated damages,” notes Bromma Vice-President Vikram Raman. “Reducing overload conditions also extends equipment life by preventing accelerated stress on container handling equipment, which means longer equipment replacement cycles.”

Bromma Spreaders Headed to Kuwait

Finally, Bromma has won a new contract for 20 YSX40E yard single-lift all-electrics for the Port of Shuaiba, Kuwait. This Kuwait GreenLine™ is part of a full Bromma all-electric order book, which includes recent orders for 40 all-electric spreaders to Terminal Catalunya, Spain; 34 all-electrics to Khalifa, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; 9 yard all-electrics to Penang Port; 11 yard all-electrics to the Port of Beirut; and 8 yard all-electrics to Ningbo Port.

Bromma is also the sole supplier to the world’s first all-electric spreader terminal, which is starting operations in Itapoa, Brasil.

Bromma’s 2nd generation yard all-electrics headed to Cartagena, Santos and Shuaiba were first introduced by Bromma in 2010. These 2nd generation all-electrics have several technical enhancements designed to achieve three key benefits:

  • fewer adjustments required to the spreader – thereby improving spreader uptime
  • easier and simpler maintenance – thereby both improving uptime and reducing service technician expense
  • greater overall reliability – thereby improving productivity

Greenline Financial Advantages
In addition, the new 2nd generation GreenLine™ yard spreaders have many financial advantages, including:

  • lower spreader weight, resulting in lower crane power consumption and lifetime diesel cost savings of 30,000 Euros
  • as much as 90% lower spreader power consumption when compared with hydraulic yard spreaders, due to the elimination of the idling hydraulic powerpack
  • major reduction in service points due to the elimination of hydraulic service points (one Bromma terminal customer reports a greater than 60% annual labor and
