The world’s leading crane spreader company, Stockholm (Sweden) based Bromma, has been awarded a major new all-electric GREENLINE™ spreader contract for delivery to Vietnam. The order for customer Tan Cang (Saigon Newport) International Container Terminal for 20 all-electric yard crane spreaders (and an additional 6 STS45 separating twin-lift spreaders), represents a significant expansion of Bromma’s presence in the rapidly growing market of Vietnam. Bromma spreaders will be operating on ship-to-shore and yard container cranes from ZPMC.

Bromma GREENLINE™ all-electric yard crane spreaders are popular throughout the container-handling world. The many financial, operational, and environmental benefits of the spreaders headed to Vietnam include:

  • lower spreader weight, resulting in significantly lower crane power consumption and substantial lifetime energy cost reduction
  • lower spreader power consumption, due to the elimination of the idling hydraulic powerpack
  • fewer service points, which means less out-of-service time for routine spreader maintenance
  • much higher operational reliability (MMBF) due to the elimination of spreader hydraulics
  • significantly lower lifetime maintenance cost (one Bromma customer has reported savings of more than 60% labor and consumables costs when all-electrics are contrasted with comparable hydraulic spreaders in their fleet)
  • greater uptime (due to the elimination of nuisance hydraulic downtime events) leading to excellent suitability for high-throughput and/or automated operations
Compelling Environmental Benefits from GREENLINE™ Spreaders
Bromma GREENLINE™ all-electric yard crane spreaders also offer compelling environmental advantages, including:
  • CO2 savings
  • groundwater protection
  • reduced consumables
  • enhanced worker safety
  • lower spreader noise
  • reduced crane and spreader power consumption.
  • By eliminating hydraulics, GREENLINE™ yard spreaders reduce spreader energy consumption by 90% -- a lifetime savings of 150,000 kWh – corresponding to 113 tonnes in CO2 emission savings per spreader. In addition, by reducing spreader weight, lifetime reduction in crane power consumption will produce 94 tonnes in CO2 emission savings per spreader. 200 tonnes of emission savings (for a single GREENLINE™ yard spreader) is equivalent to 1.7 million kilometers of driving in a V70 Volvo sedan, or 42 turns around the globe.

GREENLINE™ yard spreaders are also designed to operate in the most challenging operating environments. Dirty electrical environments, saltwater, blowing sand, and the punishing shocks spreaders receive can be a big problem for off-the-shelf components designed for less difficult operating environments, but the GREENLINE™ has been purpose-designed to perform reliability whatever the environment. Bromma today has 10 different GREENLINE™ all-electric spreader solutions for yard and ship-to-shore operations. The compelling cost-saving, uptime, reliability, and environmental advantages of GREENLINE™ spreaders have led to their wide adoption across the container-handling world. The Bromma spreaders headed to Vietnam will join more than 1,000 GREENLINE™ yard spreaders already in service at the world’s leading container ports.
