Congresswoman Janice Hahn (D-CA) last week introduced a bill to improve the nation’s goods-moving system through strategic infrastructure investments. Her bill, the National Freight Network Trust Fund Act of 2014, establishes a Freight Trust Fund designed to distribute funding through a competitive multimodal grant process for infrastructure projects that will improve the freight system through increased capacity or efficiency, or by reducing environmental impacts on freight-hub communities.    “I commend Congresswoman Hahn for making freight infrastructure a priority and developing legislation that stands to enhance the goods movement system that supports our national economy. For many years the Coalition for America’s Gateways and Trade Corridors has supported the development of a freight-specific competitive grant program that distributes money to meritorious projects that will enhance system performance. We appreciate the Congresswoman’s work in this area and look forward to working with her to see that our shared vision of a well-funded freight system is achieved.”   The National Freight Network Trust Fund Act of 2014, H.R. 5101, was introduced on July 14, 2014 with seven original co-sponsors.
