YAOUNDE - Robusta coffee exports from Cameroon rose to 12,607 tonnes in the six months to end May 31, up from 8,087 tonnes in the same period in the previous season, National Cocoa and Coffee Board (NCCB) data showed on Wednesday. The data showed 2,379 tonnes shipped in May, down from 2,700 tonnes a year earlier. There were seven exporters last month including Nealiko and GIC 3C which exported 1,087 tonnes and 360 tonnes each. The data also showed that the central African country shipped 81 tonnes of arabica coffee for the month, marking a sharp drop from 470 tonnes a year earlier. Olam-Cam and United Family were the top two exporters of arabica in May with 63 tonnes and 18 tonnes each. The arabica season runs from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30 while the robusta season runs from Dec. 1 to Nov. 30. Cameroon is one of only a few African countries growing both types of coffee.
