Hamburg Süd has announced a vessel swap in its Pacific Coast - Pacific Island Service. “Cap Taputapu” will phase in on March 27, 2016 in Long Beach, CA to replace the “Cap Avatele” which will leave the service. The new vessel is named after Cape Taputapu on the island of Tutuila in American Samoa. Following the Hamburg Süd tradition of naming ships after geographical landmarks, the “Cap Taputapu” follows in the wake of the famous “Cap” vessels that have sailed in the 145 year history of the Company (“Cape” in the German language is Cap). Hamburg Süd provides fortnightly sailings from Long Beach and Oakland directly to Papeete / Tahiti, Apia / Samoa and Pago Pago / American Samoa.
