Qatar Airways to begin new service to Doha

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) welcomes today’s announcement of an award-winning new airline bringing the first connection to a new international city, with Qatar Airways starting service to Doha (DOH) beginning March 15, 2021. The new service will provide connections to additional destinations including 13 cities in India and 20 in Africa as well as linkage to upcoming oneworld alliance member Alaska Airlines.

Key insights: 1. The continued peak in ocean container demand is keeping ports congested, equipment scarce and pushing rates to multi-year highs on all the major lanes out of Asia, as the Asia-Europe (+77% since October, +141% y-o-y), and Asia-Mediterranean (+60% since Oct., +130% y-o-y) lanes have now joined Asia-US lanes at about $4,000/FEU or above. 2. Air cargo may have passed it’s peak season peak, but Freightos.com data showed rates from China to the US and EU began climbing (6-12%) this week, possibly due to vaccine-related cargo starting to grab still-limited capacity.

ANA partners with Toyota Industries to test automated technology at Saga Airport

All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan’s largest and 5-Star airline for eight consecutive years has partnered with Toyota Industries to conduct additional tests of the robotic baggage loader and autonomous towing tractor to further develop these innovative technologies to accelerate their adoption. Scheduled for December 14th – 18th, this latest series of tests will demonstrate the gains made by autonomous technology. The tests will take place at Kyushu Saga International Airport (hereinafter referred to as Saga Airport) where ANA has conducted trials of automated technology since March 2019. The airport has served as the location for the trials as ANA has partnered with Saga prefecture to transform Saga Airport into one of the world’s smartest, best connected airports.
