Another step forward for the Port of Virginia as it welcomes record-breaking box ship to Virginia International Gateway

The biggest container ship to ever come to the U.S. East Coast, the CMA CGM Marco Polo, called The Port of Virginia® this week and in doing so set a new record for the biggest container ship to date to call Virginia.

Biggest vessel to call USEC comes to Virginia

Today, the CMA CGM MARCO POLO, a container vessel with the capacity to carry more than 16,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), is on berth and working at The Port of Virginia. This is the largest container ship to ever call the US East Coast and while here it went to Virginia International Gateway (VIG).

The Port of New York and New Jersey welcomed the CMA CGM Marco Polo to APM Terminals at the Elizabeth Port Authority Marine Terminal on Thursday, May 20. The arrival set a new record for the largest ship to call on the Port of New York and New Jersey, unseating the CMA CGM Brazil, which arrived on September 12, 2020.
