At their August 26, 2021 Regular Monthly Meeting, the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans unanimously approved a contract for Program Management and Program Control Services to HDR Engineering, Inc. as part of the multi-year due diligence and permitting process for the new Louisiana International Terminal (LIT) container facility in St. Bernard Parish.

Valenciaport handles more than 3.2 million containers up to July and grows by 10%

• In the first seven months of the year, more than 49.5 million tonnes have been handled, 11.1% more than in 2020 and 2.4% more than in 2019 • Cargo containers (exports) grew between January and July by 22.7% compared to 2020. Valenciaport's connectivity facilitates the work of exporting companies in its hinterland, key to the recovery of economic activity and job creation • In these first seven months of the year, all sectors have increased. Of particular note is the growth in exports of iron and steel (37.1%), construction materials (35.26%) and the agri-food industry (28.11%) compared to 2020 • In the interannual (August 2020-July 2021), 5.7 million containers will be exceeded, approaching the figure of six million in a context that is still complex due to the pandemic • In July this year, 456,650 TEUs and 6,837,639 tonnes of goods were handled, slightly higher than in the same month of 2020 • By countries, China and the USA are the leading trading partners with 356,389 and 317,989 full containers respectively with origin/destination Valenciaport.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) today announced the designation of six new Marine Highway Projects and a new Marine Highway Route as part of the America’s Marine Highway Program (AMHP). The AMHP encourages the use of America’s navigable waterways for the movement of freight and people as an alternative to land-based transportation.
