CII Emphasizes Industry Role to Provide Educational Opportunities  "The support CII has received from the industry through our Connie Award events and seminars has made it possible for us to respond the urgent need this disaster has caused," said Michael DiVirgilio, CII President. "We at CII feel greatly rewarded that we can provide these funds on behalf of those in the industry who have ensured our success." In accepting the contribution, Mr. Chiarello said: "The fund has already received requests from family members for assistance and we have been able to honor them. This surprise donation will provide significant help to those who are dealing with great tragedy and truly need it." CII's donation will go into a family relief and education charity established October 9, 2015 through the Seaman's Church Institute and is being administered by TOTE executives and other organizations, such as the labor unions involved. The El Faro, carrying 28 crew, five Polish workers and containerized and roll-on cargo, sunk in heavy seas during a hurricane while traveling from the Port of Jacksonville to San Juan, Puerto Rico. "We are also trying to set an example for other associations to consider donating funds to help these families," said Mr. DiVirgilio. With this donation, CII continues its mission to support on-going education.  Since 1992, CII awarded more than $600,000 in scholarships to students pursing careers in the logistics industry.
