Con-way Freight, a less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier and subsidiary of Con-way Inc. has announced it has been awarded the distinction of 2011 Best Collaboration by an Indirect Supplier by Avery Dennison, a leading materials science company specializing in labeling, packaging and supply chain solutions.

Con-way Freight was presented with the award at a City of Hope charity event hosted by Avery Dennison in Dana Point, Calif., last month. Avery Dennison created the indirect supplier award in 2011 to recognize a supplier that has demonstrated excellent performance in critical areas. Con-way Freight is the first recipient.

Award criteria included consistently delivering superior quality, on-time and within budget service, competitive pricing, constant benchmarking and implementation of market best practices. The criteria also placed significant emphasis on supplier collaboration with Avery Dennison to optimize process and cost as well as the use of Lean principles. Con-way Freight was recognized for excelling in all evaluated areas and for successfully reducing damage claims for Avery Dennison by over 40 percent.

'Con-way Freight is a valuable partner who has helped us deliver consistent, reliable results for our customers,' said Sheri Kerestman, director of global procurement and transportation, Avery Dennison. 'We are very pleased to recognize them with this award.'

Con-way Freight, which began working with Avery Dennison in 2006, handles LTL shipping for all divisions of the company, including inbound and outbound product lines from manufacturing and distribution facilities nationwide.

'We are thrilled and honored to be recognized as Indirect Best Collaborative Supplier by Avery Dennison,' said Greg Lehmkuhl, president, Con-way Freight. 'It is a testament to the accomplishments and abilities of the entire Con-way Freight team and how hard work and persistence have made the Avery Dennison ' Con-way Freight relationship a winning combination.'
