The DB Schenker Award 2009, which carries a cash prize of EUR 10,000, goes to Dr. Anita Petrick from the Darmstadt University of Technology . The young female scientist beat competition from all over Europe with her dissertation entitled 'Multimodal products in revenue management: potential and approaches to achieve capacity control'.

The dissertation submitted by Dr. Petrick dealt with the special challenges that arise in connection with 'multimodal' products. These are products that incorporate a variety of services that are made available to the customer in order to meet his specific needs.

'The work chosen by Dr. Petrick deals with a subject that is not only innovative, topical and relates to day-to-day operations, but one in which, even in related scientific discussions, little research has been carried out to date. It is a topic that is also of considerable interest to DB Schenker, because multimodality affects many areas of our transportation services,' said Dr. Karl-Friedrich Rausch, Member of the Management Board of DB Mobility Logistics AG responsible for the Transportation and Logistics Division, at the award ceremony.

A cash prize of EUR 10,000 was also awarded to the Professor of the supervising Chair in Operations Research held by Prof. Wolfgang Domschke at the Darmstadt University of Technology for supporting and supervising Dr. Petrick's work.

The DB Schenker Award is presented by the Stinnes Foundation and is recognized as being one of the most prestigious European awards for logistics specialists.

The Stinnes Foundation incorporated in DB Mobility Logistics AG is a non-profit organization that was established in 1983 on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of Stinnes AG. An award has been presented annually in recognition of work completed by young scientists since as early as 1978.

The purpose of the award is to support non-profit scientific activities, especially academic work completed by young scientists in the fields of transportation, logistics and traffic systems.
