The Deer Park Chamber of Commerce named the Port Authority its 2014 Industry of the Year at a November 18 luncheon at the Jimmy Burke Center. Every year, the chamber recognizes a company and its employees for their contributions to the economic well-being of the community, in keeping with its mission to promote a climate for business that enhances the economic vitality and quality of life in Deer Park. The Chamber Board's Salute to Industry Committee also selected the Port Authority for 2014 since the year marks a significant milestone: the Centennial of the Houston Ship Channel. Executive Director Roger Guenther accepted the award on behalf of the Port Commission and the Port of Houston Authority and thanked the Chamber for its partnership and support. He discussed the growth, investment and commitments the Port Authority is making to ensure that it is ready for the bigger opportunities ahead. "With your ideas and partnership, we will continue to generate growth and opportunity for our region, the state and the nation," he said. "Because of our continued innovation and infrastructure investment, the Port of Houston is ready to accommodate increased customer cargo today, tomorrow and into the future."
